Volcanic Risk Solutions Win Massey Research Medal

The Volcanic Risk Solutions team have won the Massey University Research Medal – Team for 2009. The award, which was presented at a black tie dinner in Wellington, recognises the research achievements of the team and contribution to the culture of research excellence at Massey University. The team have secured $7.5m in research funding since 2004 and in that time have published 80 journal articles, 12 book chapters, and delivered 231 papers at conferences around the world. The team was nominated for the award by the Head of the Institute of Natural Resources, Prof Peter Kemp, who acknowledged the team’s ability to produce “both exciting and fundamental scientific discoveries on volcanoes and lahars, and provide hands-on advice and practical tools for managing natural disasters caused by volcanoes.”
The Massey University Research Medals are awarded each year to recognise outstanding research at Massey University. The University Research Medals are the highest award for research bestowed by the University (Honorary Degrees excluded).
